West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science will be offering several programs throughout the winter. Depending on the weather and amount of snow, we will be offering all hikes with snowshoes. All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. For all events, please meet at WMAES Playground, 4463 Leonard Street, NW Grand Rapids. Pre-registration required for all events. Howl at the Moon Hike
Date: Thursday December 13
Time: 5:30pm-7pm
Registration Due: 11/30/12
Cost: $3 for children, $5 for adults
Explore the ecosystems while learning the different phases of the moon by the light of the moon. Play some moonlight tag along the way! We’ll have a roaring campfire in the woods to warm up by and have some hot cocoa. Click here to register.
Animal Adaptations in the Winter
Date: Thursday January 17
Time: 5:30pm-7pm
Registration Due: 1/10/13
Cost: $3 for children, $5 for adults
Learn how animals adapt to the “harsh” Michigan winters. Check out some animal skins, furs, and skulls and warm up beside a roaring fire in the forest. We will mimic the snowshoe hare and snowshoe out to the forest if the weather permits. Click here to register.
Late Winter Wonderland at WMAES with a Horse Drawn Sleigh Ride (weather permitting)

Celebrate Valentine’s day with the family. Take a horse-drawn sleigh ride around the WMAES property while learning about the history of the Belgian horse. The sleigh ride will take us to the forest where a roaring fire awaits to warm us up. In the event of no snow, we have a horse-drawn wagon ride. Click here to register.
Makin’ Maple Syrup

Come on out to WMAES and help us with our syrup collecting and learn how syrup has been made throughout history…watch the boiling process, tap some trees and taste some different grades of syrup. If weather permits we will snowshoe out to the maple forest. Click here to register.
